Good morning, IES families! The school year is underway, and we are off to a great start! Teachers have been working hard to get to know each and every student in their classrooms, while maintaining a safe learning environment. Parent/teacher conferences are an opportunity for teachers to share your child’s academic strengths and discuss his/her social progress. This year you will have the option for either a phone conference or a Zoom conference with your child’s teacher on Thursday, November 5, 2020. We will not be conducting any in-person conferences. We are using an online system, PTCFast, for scheduling the 1st semester conferences this year, which makes sign-ups as convenient as possible. When signing up, please list either phone conference or Zoom meeting in the space provided. Please visit the following website to register for a conference time: https://ptcfast.com/schools/IES If you do not have internet access, or need help with the sign-up process, please contact us via phone at 814-899-7643 x2000 to set up your conference. Good morning families! This year our classroom holiday parties will look different due to the fact we are unable to have volunteers in our classrooms. However, students will still have the opportunity to celebrate because the teachers and staff at Iroquois Elementary School will be planning and running the holiday parties! All party activities will allow for students to stay in their classroom and remain socially distant. These parties will include school provided activities and treats. Please refrain from sending in candy, goodie bags and/or other items. We ask that if you would like to contribute to the parties, and are able to, please send in $3 to your child’s classroom to help cover the cost of the holiday parties. If you would prefer only donating to the Halloween party at this time, please send in $1 by Friday, October 23rd. In addition, our Halloween Parade will be virtual this year! Students are encouraged to come to school in costume. Photographs of students will be taken, and a virtual parade will be created and released to teachers and families to view. If you have any questions or concerns reach out to the IES office at 814-899-7643 x 2000. Thank you!

A message from VLN for our ISD Cyber Families: We understand how challenging the system performance issues we have experienced over the last week have been for the district and your cyber families and we sincerely apologize for the difficulties and frustrations they have caused. While we worked hard to anticipate and prepare for the impacts of a significant increase in enrollments in our programs due to the pandemic, we were unable to predict the effects certain aspects of this growth would have on our system. Over the last several days our Technology Team has worked tirelessly and we have taken significant steps to restore system performance, including the following actions: • Increased server capacity – processing and memory • Optimized core performance for main student interface during heavy workloads • Separated application and file servers for increased performance and scalability • Offloaded textbook downloading to a separate sever Specific to the past 24 hours, we’ve added a second server to handle the higher volume of system service calls. This additional server appears to have greatly improved traffic flow to and from the database. Additionally, we’ve also offloaded the textbook downloading to a separate server to resolve slowdowns in the system created by this functionality and to prevent download timeouts. We’re continuing to monitor traffic and system performance in both of these areas and will respond quickly to make any additional adjustments that are needed. We intend to provide daily updates on the system status moving forward to keep you well informed. As always thank you for your patience and support as we work to make this right for you, your students and your families.

Hello IES Cyber Academy Parents! Below is the latest information we have received from VLN regarding fixing the technological issues they have been experiencing the last few weeks. We will keep you updated regarding any additional information we receive from VLN. Thank you for your continued patience with the matter. From VLN: Our Software Team has been working diligently throughout the weekend and we have made significant progress in restoring access and performance throughout the system for students. The team continues to work on a detailed review of our entire code and additional adjustments will be made as we find it necessary to improve the user experience. Students will notice that in an effort to further streamline the system, we have temporarily removed the Progress Indicator Gauge and Individual Status Indicators that appear below each course. These tools will be added back into the platform in the future. We apologize for the frustrations caused by last week’s system issues and we want to assure you that we are fully committed to providing a successful learning experience for your students and families.
